Back Story, Episode 15 – What is a Death Doula? Assisting the Dying in Navigating Their Path HOME with Journalist Gail Harris
This week, expect to see a few reminiscent tears as Steve interviews Gail Harris, a National Emmy Award-winning PBS and NPR journalist and former correspondent for ABC News Nightline and World News Tonight, about an uncomfortable and often neglected topic that each and every one of us will someday face—the process of dying.
Gail’s Lightwork has found many outlets, including journalism, film, education, and advocacy. Her latest adventure is to become a certified Death Doula and share that dying doesn’t have to be a sad and somber event—that leaving this world can be as uplifting and positive as coming into it. According to the group of nine, those who provide support for the transition into the next life are the highest level of healers.
Gail joins us to explain the similarities and differences between a Death Doula and a Birth Doula and how she helped to create a center that now trains and certifies Death Doulas to assist those who have come to the end of this life in navigating their path Home and offer support to their loved ones.
